How to write instructions that get good results
Write it the way you'd tell a human employee. Good instructions tend to share three things.
- What: what the result should be, like "Instagram promo copy" or "October sales report."
- How many / how much: giving a quantity, like "3" or "about one A4 page," makes results much more accurate.
- For whom / what tone: a bit of context, like "for office workers in their 30s, casual tone."
Example: "Write 3 Instagram promo captions for our new bakery item (salt bread), targeting women in their 20s, with a bright tone."
You don't have to get it perfect the first time. Looking at the result and saying "make the second one shorter" is faster than writing a long instruction upfront.
